SUMMARY:

Custodians are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, fitness center, laboratories, breakrooms, cafeterias and furnishings ensuring that tasks are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensers.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
  • Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed
  • Complete all daily/weekly checklists/sign off sheets.
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds.
  • Safely operate all job-related equipment and ensure self and coworkers are compliant with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Reports to a Custodian Lead who is responsible for the direction of housekeeping services in the facility.
  • Effectively communicate accurate and complete information to oncoming shift.
  • Positively impacts shift/departmental morale and engagement
  • Work with moral integrity on a consistent basis with little or no supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and on a consistent basis. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill,

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

Previous custodial experience desired.

Language Skills:

Individual must be able to read, analyze, interpret, and present out general business items to groups of coworkers, managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Effective English communication is a must, bilingual is preferred.

Mathematical Skills:

Employee must possess ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is preferred.

Schedule Accommodation:

To successfully support the business needs, the employee will be expected to work overtime, weekends and rotating/varying shifts, as well as be available for emergency call-out as needed.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be physically able to:

  • Stand and/or walk for up to 12 hour shift.
  • Climb on a ladder or scaffolding to heights in excess of 10', balance, and work above the shoulders frequently.
  • Bend/stoop, kneel, crouch, and squat frequently for extended periods of time
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds of weight from the floor to above the shoulders.
  • Work at heights.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment such as steel toed shoes, work gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, dust masks, safety harnesses and safety shoes on a continuous basis.
