We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant for our National Reference Medical Laboratory.

This is a contract to possible hire position!

Medical Lab Assistant hours: Monday -Friday 5pm-130am

Medical lab Assistant pay rate: 13.00-15.00 an hour DOE

Medical lab Assistant Responsibilities

• Receive and check-in samples as they are delivered to the laboratory

• Identify discrepancies, validity, stabilities

• Sort and code according to department guidelines

• Entry patient demographics utilizing multiple database systems

• Prepare laboratory specimens (blood, urine, stool, sputum, body fluids, etc.) for various technical areas prior to laboratory analysis

• Accurately label, centrifuge, aliquot, and document samples and sample types

• Sorting, racking and delivering samples

• Processing 40-70 samples per hour

• Storing, retrieving, and disposing of samples during the testing process and post-retention

• Maintain a clean, well-stocked, organized work area

• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures including safety and quality standards

Job Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications for a Medical Lab Assistant

• High School Diploma or equivalent; prefer some post-high school education

• Data entry

• Ability to work with accuracy and speed while paying close attention to detail

• Effective written and verbal communication

• Able to handle stressful situations caused by high volume and deadlines

• Prolonged standing may be required

• Must be able to adjust the schedule to meet business unit requirements, which may include extended hours.

• Must have the mental alertness and high energy required to appropriately perform the job

• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities

Preferred education, skills

• Strong memorization skills

• Able to decipher the relevance of information on requisitions
